PhotoRejuvenation
PhotoRejuvenation is a series of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments that improve the appearance of Rosacea, flushing and sun-damaged skin, age spots, skin texture, and photo aging. Treatment also improves the appearance of mild acne scars, reduces large pores, corrects dark circles around the eyes, and reduces fine lines. Additionally, this exhilarating treatment involves little to no "downtime." Normal activities immediately resume.
During the procedure, an intense light is applied as a series of gentle pulses to the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation. Heat then impairs the targeted vessels or lesions and the body begins a natural healing process. Lesions darken before they flake off or are absorbed by the body. Treatment can take place as frequently as every three weeks.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser treatment for unwanted hair is a non-invasive approach to permanent reduction and long-term hair removal. Treatment is specifically designed to eliminate undesired hair from all parts of the body. Unlike many other treatment methods, laser hair removal leaves your skin looking and feeling smoother and softer!
Preliminary setup involves cleansing and shaving the area to be treated. A laser is then directed toward the area and produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Without damaging the surrounding tissue, controlled pulses of light penetrate the skin and get absorbed by hair follicles. The heat generated in the process discourages and ultimately destroys the hair and its potential for regrowth. Post-treatment includes a clean up of the treated area and the application of sunblock. Larger areas such as those found on the back, shoulders, abdomen, and legs can be rapidly treated. Smaller facial areas like the upper lip, chin, and beard can be treated in minutes.
Acne Treatment
Acne is a common medical condition that affects up to 80 percent of adolescents and adults at some point in their lives. Adult onset acne has become a growing concern for people in their 20's, 30's, and 40's. Although acne is not a grave disease, it can leave permanent scarring on the skin, and negatively impact an individual's self-esteem. Clearing up acne can help relieve these issues, but many people don't realize that something can be done.
What is acne?
Acne is one of the most common of all skin problems, characterized by whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and, in some people, deep painful bumps that look and feel like boils. When it's severe, acne can cause permanent scarring of the skin. And those are just the physical problems.
Here's how acne (clogged pores) occurs
The lining of the wall of the hair follicle sheds skin cells, which then stick together with the sebum produced by the sebaceous glands. This causes a plug to form below the surface of the skin. This plug cannot be washed away. This process can take days to weeks for a visible lesion to form. Whiteheads and blackheads are the result. The sebum and cell debris together contribute to the growth of bacteria that naturally live in your pores.
Your body's own immune system will naturally attempt to clear the clogged pores by sending in certain specialized cells that invade the follicle to help clean it up. However, in the process, the wall of the follicle may weaken and rupture, emptying the contents of the follicle into the surrounding tissue. When this occurs, swelling or redness can develop around the affected follicle, resulting in the larger bumps or pimples characteristic of acne. These are known as papules and pustules and can sometimes cause scarring.
What are the treatment options?
There are many treatments available. During your consultation, we can discuss what options will best suit your needs. Treatment may include any of the following:
Photodynamic Therapy
A topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan is applied to your skin and then activated with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). Pores become minimized and oil glands are reduced.
Laser Treatment
Pulsed light is delivered through the skin's surface triggering the body's natural bacteria fighting defenses. These defenses kill the problem causing bacteria, reducing the severity of current and future breakouts.
Chemical Peels
This involves a uniform and controlled shedding of skin layers using a topically applied exfoliating solution. The number of layers to be exfoliated and solution strength will depend on the nature and depth of treatment required. Damaged, outer layers of the skin are removed exposing the soft, clear, and radiant underlying skin.
Microdermabrasion
A stream of very fine crystals is sprayed through a handpiece across the skin, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. These tiny crystals act as an exfoliant to remove the dead skin cells and promote the production of new cells and collagen to even out skin texture and tone. Improvements in appearance and texture will occur with successive treatments.
During your consultation, we will work with you to determine the right course of action and regimen that's best for you.
