Cellulite is the lumpy "cottage cheese" or "orange peel" appearance of fat that many women develop, most commonly in the thighs, above the knees or in the buttocks. Previous treatments using creams have not proven to be of value.
Endermology, a treatment using compression can give a short-term improvement in the appearance but does nothing to actually repair the underlying problem. Even liposuction will not help cellulite. In fact it may even worsen the appearance. (Liposuction works on deeper fat, whereas cellulite arises from the subcutaneous area.)
Mesotherapy is an exciting aesthetic treatment which causes long-term improvement of cellulite. Initially begun by Dr. Michel Pistor, a French general practitioner in 1952, this has been used in Europe, Brazil and other countries for many years to treat cellulite and unwanted fat bulges (called lipodissolve in this setting).
Normal body chemicals are injected directly into the fat to cause breakup of the fat cells and an inflammatory reaction (which is an important component of the effectiveness). A series of injections is given with needles smaller than an eyelash. The treatment does not cause much pain so anesthesia is not required. It is possible to continue normal activities without interruption. As with any injection, there is a possibility of bruising, and most people develop temporary redness, mild soreness and palpable bumps in the treated area. In summary, mesotherapy is an easily tolerated and effective treatment for cellulite and unwanted fat bulges.
